Mixing tower defense and survival – Hell Well is on Xbox, PlayStation, Switch and PC

Hell Well is a new tower defense survival game on Xbox, PlayStation, PC and Switch

If you’re a gamer of a certain age, you may just adore Hell Well. Others meanwhile are likely to dismiss it from the get-go. Whatever, you can play it now on Xbox, PlayStation, PC and Nintendo Switch.

Hell Well is the latest from the ever prolific Eastasiasoft. Intent on pushing out new games each and every week, if it’s indie gems you are after, Eastasiasoft sometimes provide it. That could most certainly be the case as Hell Well releases on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. It’s on PlayStation, PC and Nintendo Switch too.

Priced at £4.19 from the Xbox Store, Hell Well sees you taking on the role of a dark sorcerer. Falling into these shoes means you need to try and defend yourself to the best of your abilities, all as multiple waves of angels descend down.

Working as a mix of tower defense and survival (Vampire Survivors, anyone?), Hell Well on Xbox, PlayStation and Switch requires you to grab any fallen spirits, making the most of them as you build up your defenses. Upgrading abilities comes as standard from there on out, as you grow your forces and traverse the ruins of the land. It’s all procedurally generated too – that should allow for some kind of freshness.

But we think it’ll be the visual style that is a bit marmite. Do you love the retro? Do you hate it? Let us know in the comments.

Key features

  • Survive waves of enemies in a mix of top-down action and tower defense!
  • Collect fallen spirits and revive them as demonic defensive weaponry.

  • Upgrade your magic spells or level up your turrets with quick-thinking strategy!

Buy and download right now

You can grab Hell Well from the usual digital stores – the Xbox Store being our favourite. From there, get buying, downloading and playing Hell Well on Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S (optimised).

You’ll also find it on the digital stores of PlayStation and Nintendo Switch. And if PC play is your bag, grab it on Steam.

Stick around for our full review. We’ll let you know how Hell Well plays on Xbox real soon.

Hell Well on Xbox Game Description

Survive as a dark sorcerer and collect fallen spirits to turn them into your own unholy defense against corrupt angels!

Take the role of a dark sorcerer as you defend yourself against waves of angels seeking to destroy you! Presented in retro 4-tone style, Hell Well is a top-down tower defense survival game where your downfall is inevitable, but the challenge is to survive and take down as many foes as possible before your ultimate demise.

Collect fallen spirits and use them to set up demonic totem-like defenses to fend off holy attackers, then upgrade abilities and increase the level of your minions to continue growing your forces across procedurally generated ruins and graveyards.

An Xbox gamer since 2002, I bought the big black box just to play Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. I have since loved every second of the 360's life and am now just as obsessed with the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S - mostly with the brilliant indie scene that has come to the fore.
