Just when you thought they were running out of ideas, the team at Lightwood Games are back. Putting together crosswords with an iconic PC game of yesteryear, Wordsweeper by POWGI has you solving puzzles in a unique way. After launching on Nintendo Switch and PlayStation a few years ago, Wordsweeper by POWGI makes its way onto Xbox today.
Who played Minesweeper properly?
Many of us have memories of playing Minesweeper back in the day when home PCs really took off, but how many of us truly knew how to play it? For me, it was just idly clicking on the grid until I was told I was doing it wrong. I suspect I wasn’t alone in that regard.
But now, the concept makes a lot more sense, with the numbers alluding to number of mines nearby. And it is here where Wordsweeper by POWGI takes that concept, replacing with numbers with letters to help you solve a traditional crossword.
A novel approach to crossword solving
The black areas of the crossword will show you potential letters that could be placed in the adjacent white squares. It won’t literally spell it out for you however, you will still need to use logic to choose the correct letter if there is more than one option.
Wordsweeper by POWGI will have puzzles of varying difficulty for you to attempt, a hint system and a fix mechanic for if things go awry. And there is always the promise of easy Gamerscore if the other POWGI games are anything to go by.
Available to download right now, Wordsweeper by POWGI is on the Xbox Store for £6.69. Stay tuned for our review coming soon, once we get our head around this unique concept. Who knows, we may even be able to finish a regular game of minesweeper after this.
