2 kings of horror bring the scares to Game Pass

Another day, another change to the Game Pass line up. And whilst we may still be getting over the fact that 4 games have recently shifted out from the subscription service, today sees the introduction of a couple of new games. Ready for 2 kings of horror to bring the scares to Game Pass?

Ever since the Game Pass announcements for January 2024 were revealed, we knew it would be a great month for subscription based gaming. And frankly, if you’re not getting excited to see a couple of absolute killers nail the Game Pass scene on Xbox and PC, we’re not sure you should be picking up a controller. 

Arriving on Game Pass today is a reworked version of a horror classic, as well as a game that delivers all the scares you could ever need. Those games? Resident Evil 2 and Those Who Remain. 

Resident Evil 2

You may have played Resident Evil 2 when it first launched on systems of the time back in 2019. But the remake which Capcom pushed to the modern gaming world in 2019 is one of the greatest of all Resident Evil games. In fact, back then, we had it right at the very top of our ranking of Resident Evil article. 

Since that time we’ve seen the reboot of Resident Evil 4, as well as Resident Evil Village. Are they better than the reworkings of the purest form of survival horror? That’s up for debate. 

What isn’t up for debate is the fact that Resident Evil 2 is a must-player. It’s a game that, should like even an inkling of a jump scare, you should be heading into right away. We’re going as far to say that it’s a must-play. And with it now on Game Pass, the reasons to skip it become less and less.

Those Who Remain

Slightly less high in quality stakes, but equal on terms of scares is Those Who Remain. 

Put together by Camel 101, published by the Wired Productions team, Those Who Remain is a lights out creepathon, a game that places you slap bang in the middle of the town of Dormont. From there, all manner of horror awaits as you try and enjoy (not sure we should be using ‘enjoy’, but let us run with it) the psychological thrills of the world. 

If you’re deep into your story, after a bit of first person jumping, we think that Those Who Remain will be right up your street. You may need to be able to get on with the slight motion sickness feels that we discovered upon release. 

“Those Who Remain on Xbox One is a decent exploration horror that will take you around seven hours to complete. I enjoyed the story, the characters, and what the game was trying to achieve through the narrative. The gameplay – with its focus on light and the alternate reality – has a unique selling point that is intriguing enough to delve into.”

Further changes to Game Pass?

Whilst we’re only just through the halfway point of January, and the month has already been a cracker, there is more to look forward to. 

We’re awaiting full confirmation of the vast majority of new additions and games that will be leaving in the second half of the month. But for now you’ll do well to look forward to the Day One Game Pass debut of Turnip Boy Robs a Bank. That is the sequel to Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion and is highly anticipated.
